I’m so absolutely fortunate to work with a group of people that is so loving, kind, and will listen anytime I mention Chase’s name. I’m even more fortunate that I get hugs everyday from my little people. And if you know me, I am always ready for a hug.
Today marks 8 years without my eldest. Time keeps moving on, but thoughts and memories of my sweet Chase continues to flood my mind. So many great and heartfelt moments that continue to play like a recording in my mind.
I love talking about all of my boys, especially in what I do. In elementary school, Chase was a major rule follower, Drew wanted everyone to be friends, and Rob was the one that made the rules, right or wrong. lol
While growing up, they changed in those roles many times. All of them have hearts of gold and cares for everyone around them. God truly blessed me to be a boy momma. There are so many qualities in each of them that are unique and special. I sure did love raising my boys. They are the best part of me and continues to mold me in who I am today.
The hard part is that any new memories stopped 8 years ago at 11:30 am on this date, when I got the call that Chase had left us. Shock, disbelief, worry, and fear fell on me like a ton of bricks. I had no idea what to do with this information they were telling me over the phone. So, I fell to my knees and let out this horrible sound (from what I was told).
All I could think about was is this real? The poor lady was sitting on the floor rubbing my back and asking me how she could help. I remembered thinking I can’t even grasp what was just told to me, and then I thought how in the world am I going to tell my boys and my Ex. I ended up making it to my car and driving home. Actually God took the wheel and drove me home, or I would not have ever made it there.
On my way, I called them and told them to come home. When they got there, one at a time, I had to tell them the news. Besides hearing it myself, it was the worst thing I had to do. I literally had to watch them go through pain that is so unbearable. As mommas, we try to protect our kids from pain. I had no choice but to watch them go through and continue to go through the pain of losing a sibling in such a heartbreaking way.
After that, I had to call my siblings and closest friends to repeat the news over and over again. I hardly remember who all I called or texted. Once close friends came over, they took everything over so I could spend time with my boys. And then, people started coming over in droves to put hands on and give hugs to us. So much love was felt through such heartbreak disbelief. People to this day, remember the exact moment and place they were when they found out the news about my handsome, sweet Chase.
I know God’s plans sometimes are not our plans, and we may not ever understand His reasoning. In saying that, I do know He sees the bigger picture and is there to hold us up anytime we fall. He has proven that to me over and over again. Although I still question Him, He is always ready for it and shows me the kind of love and understanding we all need to show.
In losing Chase in this way, God decided that I needed a new platform which was and still is sharing about suicide awareness and the importance of letting people know they matter and they are seen. Chase was a bright spot in the lives of so many people. He was so kind and loving. He wanted everyone to feel seen and heard. He made people feel like they were important to him. He is so missed by his siblings, family, coworkers, friends, and his “Mother”.
Chasing Awareness Cornhole tournament is Saturday, September 12th. It’s an event to raise money for suicide awareness while having a fun time playing Cornhole, win prizes, listen to music, grab some food, and enjoy some great conversations while supporting such a great cause.
